American College Experience - UCLA/USC
I had the opportunity to live, work and travel Los Angeles for two months. I was lucky enough to stay at UCLA for seven weeks and USC for two weeks, this meant I got to have the college experience of living on campus, attending frat parties and watching the college sports, without having to study!
The colleges in America are insane, they are just like the movies, over the top! They have massive stadiums as sports is huge in the states, they had one for soccer, basketball, tennis and American football. The campus at UCLA and USC were beautiful, they are the top universities to go to in California. I had to use a scooter (Bird- famous in LA, everyone uses it) to get around the campus as they were so big.
The frat parties were a huge part of the college lifestyle, if you were a girl you could walk into any frat you wanted and if you were a boy you would have to be part of a fraternity to enter. They have secret handshakes and would not admit what they had to do to get in. The parties were wild because in America you have to be 21 to drink, therefore the only place for college students to socialise is to go to a frat party.
University of California Los Angeles – UCLA:
This is one of the top three public universities of the USA. The campus is beautiful, many movies and TV shows were filmed at UCLA including Legally Blonde, Gilmore Girls, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Pie and more.
Whilst I was there Manchester United, and Barcelona FC came to UCLA to use their football pitch for training during the summer.
The campus was close to everything in LA, we were based in Westwood next to Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Brentwood and Century City.
I had made many friends at UCLA as we had stayed there for over a month. We even became part of a sorority/fraternity called Sigma Alpha Epsilon. We defiantly had the American college experience.

University of Southern California - USC:
I stayed at USC in a student house for two weeks with my friends. We met lots of new people that went to USC. The campus was beautiful, we found ourselves at the USC moving in carnival and silent roller disco. It is good being twenty as we pass as college students. We got free food and played games at the carnival.
My favourite place to visit was the USC village it was full of shops and nice restaurants.

Frat Parties UCLA/USC:
Fraternity: a local or national organization of male students, primarily for social purposes, usually with secretinitiation and rites and a name composed of two or three Greek letters. They live in a mansion of 50+ boys.
I attended many frat parties as we had made a lot of friends on the college campus’. The first frat we attended was called Theta Chi, I was surprised we got in but if you’re a girl you have a free pass to go wherever you want. This party exceeded my expectations it was just like the movies! Absolutely crazy! We ended up playing beer pong and basketball in the pool. We had to walk back to our accommodation soaking wet!
The second frat we went too was more of a kickback (more than a gathering, less than a party). It was at Sigma Chi, we played basketball and danced. We went there a few times, but it was not as good as the other frats.
We attended a house party, there were two going on at the same time next door to each other. The police came and shut one of the parties down because of overcrowding and only one party was allowed to go on at a time.
The fraternity which became my second home was Sigma Alpha Epsilon. We used to stay over and go to their kickbacks and parties every night, we had made good friends there. My favourite parties were Dirty Disney and Camo Night. They decorated the whole frat to match the theme, had great music and were great company.
I only attended one kickback at University of Southern California - USC (Private University). We played beer pong, they taught me how to shotgun, played basketball and flip cup.
The only way I can explain these parties is to watch the movie Project X or Bad Neighbours and then you can see how crazy they get!
